- By betting now you can lock in value for the 2019 season
Kyler Murray surged towards the end of the college football regular season and beat out Tua Tagovailoa and Dwayne Haskins to win the 2018 Heisman Trophy. Since it is never too early to look into the crystal ball, what about next year?
Impact of Previous Heisman Winners on 2019 Odds
The influence of past Heisman winners like Kyler Murray extends beyond personal acclaim. Their success shapes perceptions and expectations for future candidates. Players who have demonstrated superior athleticism and work ethic as Heisman winners often set benchmarks that new contenders strive to meet or exceed. This trend impacts betting odds as fans and bettors anticipate whether emerging talents can replicate or surpass such achievements, setting the stage for changing odds.
Murray will either be with the Oakland A’s, or in the NFL, and Haskins likely will be playing pro football. That leaves Tua as the favorite, but there are plenty of good options to ponder.
Let’s look at the early candidates, their odds, and see if what value we can find.

2023 Heisman Race Recap
The 2023 Heisman race was another exciting chapter, showcasing standout performances from around college football's elite. Caleb Williams from USC took home the trophy, dazzling both fans and analysts with his exceptional play and versatility. His dominance this past season plays a part in shaping the early odds for 2024. Observers will be keen to see if other remarkable young players can seize the spotlight, making this year's race just as thrilling.
The Favorite: Tua Tagovailoa
There is a pretty strong argument to be made that Tagovailoa should have won the award this year. He posted outstanding numbers, 37 passing touchdowns and four interceptions with over 3,300 yards through the air, while sitting out many third and fourth quarters.
He will be the centerpiece player for one of the best teams in the country next year. He could also garner support because some voters think he just got robbed. However, his price suggests a 33-percent chance of winning, hard to swallow a year out.
Top Challenger: Trevor Lawrence
There is tremendous value on Lawrence right now. Like Tua, he plays for a perennial contender, and some feel that he is the most NFL ready quarterback in a generation.
He took over Clemson’s signal caller duties four games into the season, and threw for over 2,600 yards with 24 scores and four interceptions. He is only going to get better, and the Tigers will be among the nation’s best teams.
Price Play: Sam Ehlinger
As a freshman Ehlinger led Texas to a 7-6 record. This year he helped Tom Herman’s team to a 9-4 mark, beat Oklahoma once and played a respectable four quarters against them in the Big XII Championship Game, earning a berth in the Sugar Bowl. He took huge strides from his first year to his second, and another such jump will put him squarely in the Heisman discussion.
If Texas takes steps forward, and with Murray leaving Norman, the Horns have a chance to become the best team in their league. Ehlinger passed for 3,123 yards with 25 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2018. He has some Tim Tebow in his game too, rushing for 13 scores 418 yards this year. The price is right if you think there is going to be a lot of Hook ’ems in 2019.
Emerging 2024 Heisman Contenders
As we look beyond, fresh faces are emerging in the Heisman discussion for 2024. Among them is Drake Maye from North Carolina, whose impressive stats and commanding presence already have him on the radar. Another player to watch is Marvin Harrison Jr., carrying forward the lineage of athletic excellence. Their contributions not only bring excitement but also fierce competition, as they vie to etch their names in the annals of college football history.
