Season Series

Thunder lead 1-0, winning 114-112 in Brooklyn on Dec. 5. Paul George scored 25 of his 47 points in a sensational fourth quarter, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds left. George rallied the Thunder from a 23-point deficit and finished a point shy of his career high. Russell Westbrook had his 108th career triple-double (since added more) to snap a tie with former Nets star and coach Jason Kidd for third in NBA history, finishing with 21 points, 17 assists, and 15 rebounds. The Nets’ Allen Crabbe scored 22 points and tied a season-high with seven 3-pointers.

The Thunder leads the all-time series 56-33 dating to the Seattle and New Jersey days.

Why Bet on Brooklyn?

The Nets are solidifying their playoff hopes on a four-game winning streak. It was 103-75 over Detroit on Monday. The Pistons scored their fewest points of the season and shot 27.8 percent (27 of 97) from the field, the lowest by any team since Memphis shot 27.1 percent at Golden State on Nov. 11, 2015. Brooklyn trailed 5-4, then went on a 14-4 run and never trailed again. Rodions Kurucs started the streak with consecutive buckets and Allen Crabbe scored eight of the next 10 as Brooklyn took early control.

Crabbe reached double figures in rebounds for the first time this season, as he grabbed 10n to go along with 14 points (5-of-8 FGs), four assists and four 3-pointers in 35 minutes. Crabbe has started Brooklyn’s last four games, and in the first three, he grabbed a total of eight rebounds. The sixth-year guard out of Cal hasn’t shot the ball particularly well of late, as he’s making 31.7% of his field goals and 28.6% of his three-pointers over the last five games.

Kurucs accounted for 13 points (6-of-8 FGs), three steals, two rebounds, one assist and one three-pointer in 20 minutes. Over the last five, the rookie forward is averaging 13.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.4 three-pointers per game with shooting splits of 58.1/52.2/87.5.

D’Angelo Russell played 24 minutes Monday, finishing with 11 points (5-of-13 FGs), seven assists, three rebounds, two steals, one blocked shot and one three-pointer. The fourth-year point guard is shooting just 39.0% from the field, 30.6% from three and 46.2% from the foul line over his last five games.

Spencer Dinwiddie shot 5-of-11 from the field and 7-of-7 from the foul line Monday for 19 points. Dinwiddie was one of seven Nets to score in double figures in Brooklyn’s 28-point win, and he’s scored 15 points or more in five of the six games he’s played in since returning from a thumb injury. During this stretch, the backup guard is averaging 18.4 points, 5.0 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Why Bet on Oklahoma City?

OKC won in Utah on Monday, 98-89, but that has been overshadowed by Russell Westbrook’s interaction with a fan. The exchange, which occurred while Westbrook was on or near the end of the Thunder bench during the second quarter, was caught on video and went viral after being posted on Twitter.

According to Westbrook, the man told him to “get down on your knees like you’re used to.” Westbrook considered that comment to be “racial” and “inappropriate.” Westbrook expressed no regrets afterward, saying that his threat, “I’ll f— you up,” to the man and his wife was an emotional response to “completely disrespectful” comments directed toward him.
It’s not likely that Westbrook will face suspension (he will be fined) for this but obviously, that would affect the spread and why no early line posted.

Nets vs Thunder should be an easy victory for Oklahoma City.

Westbrook took over after the Jazz rallied in the fourth quarter. Royce O’Neale cut the deficit to 89-83 on a pair of 3-pointers. Utah didn’t get any closer. Westbrook scored back-to-back baskets as part of a 9-1 run that put the Thunder up 98-84 with 1:32 remaining. He finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Westbrook currently leads the league in assists (10.5), fast break points (5.3) and leads all guards in rebounding (11.1) while ranking third in steals (2.00).

Dennis Schroder scored 24 points vs. the Jazz with seven rebounds and three assists. He finished 10-of-18 from the field and 2-of-3 from the line for his first 20-point effort since Feb. 5. Paul George had another quiet night vs. the Jazz on Monday, hitting 2-of-8 shots and 10-of-12 free throws for 14 points. The rest of George’s line was solid with 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals, one block, and five turnovers.

Markieff Morris left Monday’s game with neck soreness and did not return. That’s big because he missed nearly two months because of his neck issue earlier this season.
