NFL Pittsburgh at Las Vegas (Sunday nite)
Sunday evening in Sin City, as the 1-1 Pittsburgh Steelers oppose the 1-1 Las Vegas Raiders.
Pittsburgh was a winner against the Cleveland Browns this past Monday night, while Las Vegas was pummeled in Buffalo.
It’s the Raiders with a 17-14 lead in the Immaculate Reception series, regular season 14-11. Pittsburgh was a 13-10 winner last season.
Las Vegas is listed as a 2½-point favorite (total at 43) in this one, according to NFL odds.
Moneyline is Vegas -145, Pittsburgh at +125.
If you’re a believer, Pittsburgh is 22-1 (+2200) to win the AFC, while the Raiders are priced at 40-1 (+4000), as per NFL conference odds.
Steelers on Road
So, after getting drilled by the San Francisco 49ers and edging the Cleveland Browns, the Pittsburgh Steelers play their first road game of the season. Pittsburgh had a fumble recovery/ touchdown by T.J. Watt in the fourth quarter to get past Cleveland.
Pittsburgh’s surrendered a league-worst 193 rushing yards per game this season. That was including an abbreviated effort by the Browns’ Nick Chubb. Thus, the Silver and Black figure to run early and often. Of course, Vegas’ anemic ground game has just 116 yards this season.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett (454 passing yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions) has been erratic in two games, but has a target in wideout George Pickens (nine receptions, 163 yards).
With an offense that, as a whole, hasn’t been consistent, do not expect a ton of scoring.
Bills Bludgeon Vegas
While it began well in Buffalo last Sunday, it ended in a rout, as in 38-10. Vegas, after a Jimmy Garoppolo-to-Davante Adam touchdown connection on the opening drive of the drive, offered minimal resistance.
Garappolo (385 passing yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions) is not much different than his counterpart here, as in inconsistent to date.
Adams (12 catches, 150 yards) remains elite at his position, but Las Vegas has not received a thing out of its backs. Josh Jacobs, coming off a 1,653-yard, 12-touchdown season, is innocuous thus far (46 yards on 28 carries).
He finished with an historically-bad -2 yards on nine carries against the Bills.
Buffalo shredded the defense of the Raiders, that after Vegas managed to eke out a win against the Broncos in Denver to begin the season.
While the Steelers are finally the road team, it’s the Raiders with their home opener.
Take the Roadies
As both of these teams are comfortable playing in low-scoring affairs, expect this game to be no different.
Even though Pittsburgh and Las Vegas have struggled to run the ball this season, there’s not much run defense on either side.
Perhaps a game of field position, where a defensive play(s) decides the outcome. Since the Steelers have arguably more playmakers on that side of the ball, they’re our choice.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Las Vegas Raiders Pick.
Take the outright result of the Pittsburgh Steelers +125, with under, also.
