NBA Championship Odds 2020: Play set to resume on 31 July
- Latest NBA Championship odds sees LA Lakers as +200 favorites.
- NBA Season set to resume 31 July.
After several months without live team sports action of any kind, the NBA voted to resume the 2019-2020 season with 22 teams in the mix for the championship.
The top 16 teams in the Eastern and Western Conferences will be joined by the six teams within two games of the final playoff spots.
Games are slated to begin July 31 with all games and practices held at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida with playoffs to conclude by October 12.
NBA Championship Odds 2020 and Contenders
Here is a list of the top contenders to win and their NBA Championship odds, according to the Bovada basketball sportsbook.
Los Angeles Lakers (+200)
With a 49-14 record, the Lakers hold the best record in the Western Conference. Clearly the team will go as far as their two superstars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, take them.
At age 35, James is having one of his best overall seasons, averaging nearly 26 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists per game.
Davis leads the Lakers in both scoring (26.7 points) and rebounding (9.4).
Kyle Kuzma, Kentavius Caldwell-Pope, Avery Bradley, Danny Green, Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo, and JaValle McGee make the Lakers the deepest roster in the NBA.
Milwaukee Bucks (+275)
At one point this season the Bucks were on pace for the best single-season record in NBA history. Their NBA Championship odds stand at +275.
After cooling off a bit, the Bucks still hold the best mark in the NBA at 53-12. Giannis Antetokounmpo is the leading candidate for MVP, averaging 29.6 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. He and fellow-All-Star Khris Middleton (21.1 points, 6.2 rebounds) form a dynamic duo.
Court general Eric Bledsoe chips in 15.4 points and 5.4 assists, while big man Brooks Lopez, shooting guard Wesley Matthews, and George Hill add to this well-oiled machine.
Los Angeles Clippers (+300)
As the number two seed in the Western Conference, the 44-20 Clippers are paced by Kawhi Leonard, who knows a thing or two about taking over in the playoffs.
He’s averaging 26.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and five assists per contest.
A high scoring team, the Clippers also feature Paul George (21.1 points), super-sub Lou Williams (18.7 points), and Montrezl Harrell (18.6 points).
Sharpshooter Landry Shamet gives opponents one more thing to worry about, while Ivica Zubac (7.2 rebounds) provides the dirty work underneath.
LA Clippers NBA Championship odds are at +300.
Boston Celtics (+1200)
At 43-21 for the season, the Celtics were a mediocre 5-5 over their last ten.
Although a shop drop in NBA Championship odds from the top three contenders, the Celtics have the fourth best odds to claim the title.
The team is led by Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker, and Jaylen Brown. Each of the trio drop more than 20 points per contest with Tatum leading at 23.6. Gordon Hayward and Marcus Smart combine to contribute 31 points per name.
Boston doesn’t have the firepower or depth off the bench to elevate them among the elite contenders.
Toronto Raptors (+1400)
The defending NBA Champions were expected to drop significantly after Leonard left for the Clippers.
However, here they sit at 46-18, the second top mark in the Eastern Conference.
Pascal Siakam has taken his game to another level, averaging 23.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Veteran guard Kyle Lowry (19.7 points, 7.7 assists), Fred VanVleet (17.6 points), Norman Powell (16.4 points), and big man Serge Ibaka (16 points, 8.3 rebounds) have all proved capable of carrying the team on any given night.
Houston Rockets (+1500)
Although tied with the 10th best record in the NBA at 40-24, the Rockets have the 6th best odds at the championship.
This is in large part due to James Harden, who can singlehandedly take over a series. He’s averaging 34.4 points, 7.4 assists, and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Teamed with Russell Westbrook (27.5 points, eight assists, seven rebounds) and the Rockets have arguably the best backcourt in the league.
Add in big man Clint Capella (13.9 points, 13.8 rebounds) and a slew of key role players and the Rockets are a legitimate playoff threat. NBA Championship odds are a juicy +1500.
Denver Nuggets (+2400)
With the 3rd seed in the Western Conference, the 43-22 Nuggets are paced by one of the best all-around players in the NBA, Nikola Jokic.
He’s averaging 20.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game. Point guard Jamal Murray averages 18.8 points and Will Barton chips in with 15 per contest.
Paul Millsap, Jerami Grant, and Gary Harris are solid role players, but the Nuggets don’t have the firepower that the top contenders have to likely make deep push in the playoffs.
Philadelphia 76ers (+2400)
After taking the Raptors to a seventh game in the second-round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last season, the 76ers were expecting bigger things.
Although still solid at 39-26, they are 6th in the conference. Injuries to superstar big man Joel Embiid (23.4 points, 11.8 rebounds) and Ben Simmons (16.7 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds) are a big reason for this decline.
However, the 76ers still possess a strong starting five that also includes Tobias Harris and Josh Richardson, along with veteran big man Al Horford.
A championship is unlikely, but this team can be very dangerous. An each way play with their NBA Championship odds +2400.
