WV Online Sports Betting Goes Live, And Two More Sportsbooks Open
Another state now has online sports betting, as West Virginia's first wagering app launched Thursday.
Casino operator Delaware North launched its BetLucky.com online and mobile app for WV sports betting.
West Virginia joins New Jersey and Nevada as US states with legal mobile apps for sports gambling.
The first Pennsylvania sportsbooks also opened recently, including one at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. PA sports betting online should launch in early 2019.
Two WV sportsbooks open as well
Delaware North also opened its retail sportsbooks at Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack, in Wheeling, and Mardi Gras Casino & Resort near Charleston.
“Our patrons are going to enjoy these spaces in the casinos and everything else we have to offer in terms of hospitality and entertainment,” said Kim Florence, regional president and general manager for both Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras. “We are eager to welcome people from throughout the state and the regions surrounding West Virginia to try a new experience at our casinos.”
The company announced it launched sports betting online and in its casinos after the completion of field testing with the West Virginia Lottery Commission.
Delaware North is partnered with Miomni Gaming for its sports betting services in the state.
Online sports betting is here, too
Even though the Delaware North casinos are the last to launch retail sportsbooks, it beat everyone else to online betting.
“We think West Virginians and visitors to the Mountain State are going to love how easy it is to register and use the app,” said Luisa Woods, vice president of marketing for Delaware North’s gaming division.
The platform was designed to be flexible, easy to use and reliable, with innovative features designed specifically to engage and entertain US sports fans. Patrons at the casinos can use the app or the betting tellers in the sportsbooks,” Woods said.
Other WV sports betting apps coming?
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races had the distinction of being the first sportsbook to open. But its sports betting partner, William Hill, has not yet received approval for online wagering.
The same goes for FanDuel Sportsbook at the Greenbrier and the Mountaineer Casino. While both have physical sportsbooks, they are not cleared for online wagering.
We'll also see DraftKings Sportsbook in the state eventually, as it has a deal with Hollywood.
