SuperBookUSA About To Lock Down First Sports Betting Deal Outside Nevada

SAN DIEGO — One of legal sports betting‘s biggest names soon will launch its first operation outside its home state of Nevada.

SuperBookUSA is on the verge of closing its initial deal to take its well-known brand beyond Las Vegas. That news came from SuperBookUSA and Westgate Vice President of Sports Operations Jay Kornegay during this week's Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention.

Asked about when SuperBookUSA might make its long-anticipated first move, Kornegay said:

“Soon. We are working on it. We’re in deep negotiations with a potential partner. We hope to finalize that within a couple of weeks. SuperBook will be operating in another state.”

Kornegay declined to say where exactly that partner might be located, though it's possible to take some educated guesses.

Where will SuperBookUSA open?

We know that eight states currently operate legal sports betting, but some can be eliminated right off the top. Obviously Nevada comes straight off the list.

Rhode Island and Delaware are lottery-run operations with established partners, and New Mexico‘s tribal enterprise also is locked up. Unless Delaware North moves quickly to replace Miomni in West Virginia or a new Mississippi casino jumps into sports betting, those states look unlikely.

That leaves New Jersey and Pennsylvania among states currently operating.

Here's the New Jersey situation:

Property Supplier/Partner Sportsbook
The Meadowlands FanDuel Sportsbook Open
Borgata IGT/GVC/Stadium Tech Temporary open
Bally's Scientific Games Temporary open
Caesars Scientific Games None
Freehold Raceway TBA TBA
Golden Nugget SBTech Open

Harrah's Scientific Games Open
Monmouth Park William Hill Open
Ocean Resort Casino William Hill Open

In either state, SuperBookUSA will find a crowded market with operators a few months into running their shops.

SuperBook a Nevada sports betting heavyweight

Back to the Westgate's days as the Las Vegas Hilton, the SuperBook ranks among the highest-profile operations in the Silver State.

ESPN takes its odds from SuperBook and Kornegay long ago became a go-to for media seeking a sports betting resource. SuperBook also wants to take its vaunted SuperContest nationwide, bringing one of the industry's best-known contests to the masses.

SuperBookUSA will operate as a separate company from Westgate. Plans for the SuperBookUSA expansion first emerged last fall, but the company moved deliberately toward partnership.

The company plans to bring more than just a name to its partner. Kornegay touts the decades of experience SuperBook oddsmaker possess, and the company operates a mobile app in Nevada. The product offering includes a long menu of customizable options, including a full white-label solution.

Kornegay said this week that roughly 60 percent of handle at Westgate comes via the mobile platform. Interestingly, he also said only about 5 percent of all wagering at the book takes place in-play.
