Philadelphia Stadium District Will Get A FanDuel Sportsbook In New Deal
FanDuel Sportsbook will get major exposure to the Philadelphia sports community with a new casino partner in the Stadium District.
FanDuel partnered up with Cordish Companies, the operator of Live! casino in Maryland and the under-construction Live! Casino and Hotel in Philadelphia.
The two will also work together to pursue sports betting and online gaming opportunities in Maryland, Washington DC and other jurisdictions.
The first stage of the partnership will go live in Pennsylvania. FanDuel Sportsbooks will open at both Live Philadelphia and Cordish’s Live! satellite casino in Westmoreland County.
The deal also involves FanDuel’s fantasy business as well, according to the press release.
Huge Philadelphia exposure for FanDuel
There are a couple of casinos that claim Philadelphia as its home, but Cordish’s Live could easily become the most associated with the city.
The $700 million casino will be located in the Stadium District in South Philadelphia near Xfinity Live!, an entertainment and dining venue also owned by Cordish.
That puts FanDuel right in the middle of Philadelphia’s sports action. Home games for the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, 76ers and Flyers will all be within walking distance of the casino.
And Cordish apparently has plans to bring those sports fans and more into the casino.
“We are excited to partner with FanDuel to bring our customers the premier sports betting experience in the country, including unique promotions and sports engagement opportunities that will only be available at Live! properties,” said Joseph Weinberg, principal of The Cordish Companies.
That makes sense given Cordish CEO David Cordish‘s outlook on sports betting. Cordish thinks sports betting only works as an amenity that can be used to drive visitation to the casino.
FanDuel Sportsbook already strong in Pennsylvania
This agreement marks another win for FanDuel Sportsbook in Pennsylvania as the mobile sportsbook quickly established itself as a market leader.
FanDuel Sportsbook accounted for 48.9% of Pennsylvania’s $241.2 million in handle for October.
Whether that dominance continued in November or not should be known next week. The PA online sports betting market got a little tougher for FanDuel after both DraftKings Sportsbook and Kindred‘s Unibet launched last month.
