The Cavaliers turned in an 8-5 record last season that included a 4-4 record in ACC play. That conference record lead to a less than stellar 4th place ranking in the Coastal Division of the ACC. However, it was a step up from the 3-5 conference record Virginia delivered the previous year. Although they didn’t make the playoffs, Virginia did receive an invitation the Military Bowl. There they faced Navy in a 7-49 blowout loss. Additionally, Virginia failed to upset Virginia Tech at the annual Commonwealth Cup, losing 0-10 to their intra-state rivals. Bronco Mendenhall will return next season marking his 3rd season as head coach of the Cavs.
Players to Watch: Bryce Perkins (2,472 passing yards, 22 TD, 9 INT), Hasise Dubois (521 receiving yards, 5 TD, 47 REC), and Joe Reed (455 receiving yards, 7 TD, 24 REC).
The Panthers turned in a 7-7 record last season that included a surprising 6-2 run in ACC play. This led to a 1st place ranking in the Coastal Division which naturally earned them an invitation to the ACC conference championship. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, there they would be pegged against No. 2 Clemson. Naturally, Pittsburgh failed to dent the suffering a 10-42 loss to the Tigers instead. Notwithstanding that loss, Pittsburgh would get a chance to end the season on a high note as they received an invitation to the Sun Bowl where they faced Stanford. In the end, Pitt lost a hard fought battle 13-14. Pat Narduzzi will make his return as head coach this season, marking his 5th with the program.
Players to Watch: Kenny Pickett (1,833 passing yards, 12 TD, 6 INT), Qadree Ollison (1,190 rushing yards, 11 TD, 6.3 AVG), and Taysir Mack (489 receiving yards, 1 TD, 21 REC).
