The Michigan State Spartans will be looking to advance to the Elite Eight at the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 when they take on No. 3 LSU on Friday in Sweet Sixteen action as 6-point favorites on the March Madness betting odds.

No. 2 Michigan State has taken big steps toward burying the memory of recent disappointments at the Big Dance, posting a pair of decisive wins in opening-weekend action, capped by a 70-50 rout of No. 10 Minnesota on Saturday as 10.5-point chalk that lifted the team’s current straight-up win streak to seven games going into Friday’s matchup at Capitol One Arena.

The Spartans were bounced from the NCAA Tournament in each of the past three years, including an opening-round loss to No. 15 Middle Tennessee three years ago in their last appearance as two-seeds. However, after escaping with wins in their first two outings, the Spartans have held steady as a +1200 wager to win the national championship on the March Madness odds.

The Tigers make their first appearance in the Sweet Sixteen since 2006 after they exceeded tempered expectations last weekend with narrow victories over No. 14 Yale and No. 6 Maryland, but will face a huge test against the battle-tested Spartans.

LSU has seen its march to the SEC regular-season championship overshadowed by a controversy that led to the indefinite suspension of head coach Will Wade. Without their bench boss, the Tigers made a speedy exit from the SEC Tournament with a 76-73 loss to Florida as 3.5-point chalk, and have now failed to cover in three straight outings while sitting as +1000 longshots on the March Madness odds to win the East Region.

Kentucky Small Favorite in Friday Clash

In other Sweet Sixteen action on Friday, the Kentucky Wildcats take on the Houston Cougars as 3-point favorites in another clash between a two-seed and three-seed. Tournament favorite Duke tips off against conference rival Virginia Tech as 7-point chalk, while the North Carolina Tar Heels clash with the Auburn Tigers as 5.5-point favorites on the March Madness lines.

No. 2 Kentucky needed a full 40 minutes to earn a narrow 62-56 win over No. 7 Wofford as 5.5-point chalk in second-round action. However, the Wildcats deserve credit for playing stingy defense in recent outings, limiting opponents to 57 or fewer points in four of their past five, and surrendering just 50 points per game at this year’s tournament.

Those results have contributed to Kentucky’s steady run in totals betting, with the UNDER prevailing in 16 of 21 contests.

No. 3 Houston has emerged as a +425 bet to win the Midwest Region following a pair of lopsided wins over Georgia State and Ohio State that have lifted the Cougars into the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since they last reached the Final Four in 1984.

Pegged as a +2000 wager on the NCAA Tournament odds entering the Big Dance, No. 5 Auburn escaped with a narrow 78-77 win over No. 11 New Mexico State in first-round action. But the Tigers dominated in an 89-75 rout of Kansas as 2-point chalk on Saturday, and now join Houston at +425 on the odds to win the Midwest.
