Serena Williams & Caroline Wozniacki Out with Injury

Serena Williams may have twenty-three Grand Slams to her name but she won’t be winning the Italian Open this year. Set to face her sister Venus in the second round, Williams instead withdrew herself from the tournament. Apparently, Serena is solely focused on rehabilitation at the moment, or at least that’s what she told the media.

“I look forward to seeing you all at the French open and next year in Rome,” Serena told the media. It’s clear that despite pulling out here she fully plans on competing at the French Open. In addition to her withdrawal, Carolina Wozniacki has also pulled out from the tournament.

Wozniacki exited the Italian Open during her first-round matchup against American Danielle Collins. Citing a leg injury, Wozniacki left after losing the first set 7-6 (7-5). It should be noted that this is the second straight tournament from which the Dane has been forced to withdraw from. Needless to say, online tennis betting fans will want to shy away from betting Caroline.

Roger Federer Dislikes Price Gouging at Italian Open

Federer has decided to play the clay-court season this time around. This marks the first time since the 2016 season that Federer has decided to do so. Following the news that he would compete at the Italian Open, the event organizers decided to double ticket prices. Naturally, the world’s number three seed was rather disappointed about this turn of events.

“They made it in a way like they rewarded the fans who bought tickets earlier, which is sort of strange,” Federer told reporters. “I just really hope it doesn’t take away the fact [that] I’m really happy to be here. There’s going to be good crowds hopefully, good atmosphere.”

The Swiss enters this tournament with a first-round bye and will officially play when he faces Portugal’s Joao Sousa in the second. The last time Federer entered the Italian Open, he was defeated in the 3rd round by Dominic Thiem. This was of course, back in 2016.

Johanna Konta set to face Sloane Stephens

Konta faced off against Alison Riske in the opening round. In the end, it took her less than 90 minutes to defeat fellow Brit Riske 6-4 6-1. Now the British No. 1 superstar is set to face off against American Sloane Stephens in the second round. The duo had previously met in January in a matchup that saw Kona come out on top. This was the only meeting between the two so mobile betting players can go off of this when making second round predictions.
