The NFL playoffs may be over, but the spotlight on the league never seems to go away. With the NFL Scouting Combine and the 2019 NFL Draft on the way, sportsbooks are gearing up for another hectic offseason.
Nick Bosa is the -200 favorite to be taken at No. 1.
When it comes to odds on which standout college player will be selected with the first-overall pick, Ohio State’s Nick Bosa tops the list at BetOnline with a price of -200. Quinnen Williams (+200), Ed Oliver (+600), Josh Allen (+1000) and Dwayne Haskins (+1200) are also available to bet on at the shop.
The Arizona Cardinals possess the top pick in the draft but could make a move to trade down. Fresh off a disappointing 3-13 SU season, the Cardinals have holes across the roster but will have a different look in 2019 thanks to the addition of ex-Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury in charge. With 2018 first-round pick Josh Rosen and stud running back David Johnson already in the fold, the Cardinals are more likely to pick a defensive player compared to other teams in the top 10.
Is Bosa's injury history a concern?
Bosa, the younger brother of Los Angeles Chargers star defensive end Joey Bosa, withdrew early from Ohio State last year to rehabilitate from core muscle surgery. The 21-year-old recently claimed he’s “back in action” and will showcase his top-class ability at the scouting combine in Indianapolis in late February.
A starter from his true freshman campaign of 2016 through his shortened junior season, Bosa had 17.5 sacks and 77 tackles (29 for a loss) in 29 games at OSU. Bosa’s decision to enter the draft early and undergo rehab wasn’t a surprising one, but there is some concern from scouts surrounding his injury history. Then again, the same thing was said about Adrian Peterson in 2007 and he turned out to be one of the most prolific running backs the league has ever seen.
Haskins, Murray the top Quarterbacks available
Bosa’s former teammate, Dwayne Haskins, is considered the most polished quarterback in the draft and could be an excellent fit for a quarterback-needy club looking for a franchise signal-caller. It would be a shock to see team trade up with the Cardinals to pick Haskins at No. 1, but stranger things have happened in the NFL.
The prospect generating the biggest amount of buzz is undoubtedly Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray. Murray’s decision to commit to becoming an NFL quarterback despite being picked in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics has been a massive storyline.
