PA Sports Betting Grows Thanks To Football: $200M Wagered In September

Pennsylvania sports betting is getting big in a hurry — hitting almost $200 million in wagers last month — thanks to the advent of online gambling and the start of football season.
And FanDuel Sportsbook has quickly established itself as the brand to beat in the PA sports betting.
PA sports betting numbers, at a glance
Figures released today from the PA Gaming Control Board showed almost $195 million in bets during September.
That’s easily a record for the relatively new PA sports betting market, which saw $109 million in wagers for August.
The state’s operators generated $15 million in revenue; $9.2 million of that came online.
We should see more growth, as well, over the final months of 2019; football betting season is the largest opportunity for sportsbooks and bettors. And the online books are still new and acquiring new bettors daily.
And the PA sports betting leader is…
FanDuel Sportsbook in PA has quickly established itself as the leader for sports betting.
After launching later than some sportsbooks, FanDuel already is dominating the market, with more than $89 million of the handle. That number comes in large part from FanDuel’s PA sports betting app.
FanDuel generated more than a third of all state sports betting revenue — $5.1 million.
Interesting, casino
The best of the rest in PA sports betting
SugarHouse Sportsbook clocks in at second with almost $38 million in handle. When combined with its sister property in Pittsburgh — Rivers Casino — handle approaches $70 million. Both casinos/sportsbooks are under the Rush Street Gaming umbrella. They combined for almost $5 million in revenue, $2.9 million by SugarHouse.
Parx Casino is the third biggest sportsbook with $21 million in handle.
How did Fox Bet do?
In its first month of operation in Pennsylvania, Fox Bet — the joint venture between Stars Group and Fox Sports — came in a distant fourth.
Handle is not broken up between the retail sportsbook at Mount Airy (the casino license holder Fox Bet uses to serve the PA market) and the online sportsbook numbers. But Mount Airy saw just under $4.9 million in bets and $231, 536 in revenue.
